British researchers from the University of Oxford reported on the progress of their study on the use of dexamethasone to treat severely ill coronavirus patients.

The World Health Organization (WHO) congratulated the British government on the discovery and stressed the fact that positive results have been observed in critically ill patients.

Dexamethasone has been on the WHO essential drug list since 1977, making it easily accessible to everyone. In the United Kingdom alone, if it had been available from the beginning of the emergency, 5,000 deaths would have been prevented, according to researchers’ estimates.
