After Napoli beat Juventus in the Coppa Italia final, thousands of citizens took to the streets of Naples to celebrate the title. These celebrations, in which the COVID-19 preventive measures were not followed, have generated a lot of criticism and accusations.

Ranieri Guerra, deputy director of the World Health Organization (WHO), called the massive celebration in the streets of the Italian city as reckless. In statements made on a television program, he said it was «lucky» that this event took place in Naples, where the incidence of the Coronavirus has been lower than in other regions. He stressed that this is not the time to allow this situation.

Guerra recalled that at the beginning of the pandemic, the match between Atlanta and Valencia became a hot spot for spreading the virus. The mayor of Naples, Luigi di Magistris, pointed out that in this case the spread of happiness had won. To date, in the Campania area, of which Naples is the capital, 4,614 people have been infected and 431 have died from the virus.
