Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei announced an extension of the nationwide curfew until May 18th, after accumulating more than 1,518 positive cases of COVID-19.

The Guatemalan president said that he was forced to take drastic measures due to the increased number of infections compared to the previous week, as the growth in the ninth epidemiological week was 194%.

The measures do not include the transport of fuel, water, medicine and propane gas, telephone and internet services, people with chronic diseases and essential goods for the country.

Neighborhood shops will only be able to open from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and access will only be allowed on foot.
