The organization Action Against Hunger (ACF) reported that the number of Guatemalans in need of food aid has doubled because of COVID-19. The figure, they believe, reaches 1.2 million people.

Angela Naletilic, deputy director of Action Against Hunger in Central America, says that more than half of the families in Guatemala are struggling to access markets, losing their savings or selling some of their possessions.

The organization adds that the situation in Guatemala could get worse, even though it is not one of the countries hardest hit by the Coronavirus in Central America. This is due to low public investment, lack of infrastructure to deal with the emergency and inequality in access to basic services.
