U.S. Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo and Chinese foreign policy official, Yang Jiechi, will hold a meeting at Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii, according to international agencies and media reports.

Both the U.S. State Department and the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs declined to provide details of the meeting. This is the first meeting between the two countries since January of this year.

Tensions between the two countries have increased in recent months: The United States has blamed China for the COVID-19 outbreak and has questioned the Asian country’s lack of information at the beginning of the pandemic. China has criticized racism and the actions of the police following the protests over the death of George Floyd.
