The COVID-19 pandemic has caused the unemployment rate in the United States to rise to 14.7%, a number not seen since the Great Depression of 1929, when President Franklin D. Roosevelt assured Americans that the only thing they should fear was fear itself.

Based on some calculations, unemployment is at 23.6%, not far from the 25% that was recorded at the peak of the 1900s Depression.

A few days ago, the Department of Labor announced that 20.5 million jobs were lost in April, the worst number ever recorded.
