President Nayib Bukele declared a state of emergency as an immediate response from the government of El Salvador to the heavy rains that occurred early Sunday morning.

Fourteen people dead, homes destroyed and flooded, power cuts and collapsed roads resulted from tropical storm Amanda’s landfall in the Central American country.

The Minister of Environment, Fernando López, said that up to 400 millimeters of water fell in the last hours of the storm, while the average accumulated in a year, in the country is 1,800 millimeters.
